Clinical Study on Breast Biopsy


Abstract
To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of clinical examination, author analysed 162 biopsies of breast lesions at department of surgery, Chosun University Hospital during the period of 6 years and 8 months from March 1976 to October 1982 .
The results were as follows.
1) Of 162 cases, 154 patients were female and 8 were male.
2) The most prevalent age of breast cancer in female was 46 to 55 years, followed by 36 to 45 years.
3) The incidence of the breast mass, between the right and the left, was almost equal.
4) In malignancy the most frequent site of lesion was in the upper outer quadrant (37.3%).
5) The most common lesion in female was malignancy (36.4%) followed by dysplasia (29.0%) and benign tumor (14.2%).
6) Male breast cancer occurred 3.4 per cent of 59 malignancies.
7) On histopathological examination 47 of 74 cases of clinical malignancy were confirmed as malignancy and diagnostic accuracy of clinical malignancy was 63.5%.
